How bad can a little Nerve Interference really be?

Our Nerves conduct information near the speed of light in order to:
1.) Keep our Brain well informed of everything that's happening in and around us, and
2.) to clearly and properly convey information from our Brain regarding how our bodies should be adapting, healing, and functioning in regards to everything we do.
Stress is usually served in 2 Sizes, and comes in 3 Flavors. Our stress may be Physical, Chemical, or Mental and Emotional; regardless of the flavor we usually experience BIG STRESS like Major Trauma (Car Crashes, Toxicity, Mental Illness) or the cumulative little stresses that affect us throughout every day of our lives (bills, prolonged poor posture, repetitive actions, sitting on a wallet, carrying a purse, lifting babies, etc)
Regardless of the Size & Flavor we respond to our STRESS by developing Spinal Subluxations, which produce Interference to the Quantity, Quality, and Clarity of the information being transmitted through our Nervous System becomes compromised. We inevitably begin to function in Dis-Ease and relative Dysfunction becoming increasingly Dis-Connected from ourselves inevitably allowing Degeneration, Decay, and Disease to develop.
Chiropractic Adjustments keep the Nervous System CLEAR, so we may Adapt, Heal, Grow, Function, & LIVE LIFE as the Greatest Expression of Ourselves possible.

This is NOT about your Back, it's about your LIFE!

How Does an Instant Change our Lives?

It happens to us all whether we're kids on the playground, or presenting to our peers at work. Inevitably, STRESS has the ability to shape how we feel, and more importantly who we grow into. Whether we experience a physical trauma which may leave us scarred or even disfigured our exposure to mental and emotional trauma has the ability to produce effects that last just as long.

Fortunately, the moments that create lasting impressions on our Brain can be positive ones as well! For parents, having a child redefines their existence, and while this event may add all sorts of unforeseen stress it also stimulates our being an a way we've never experienced. This results from an intense stimulation of our Nervous System eliciting cascades of chemical reactions, and lodging the perception of an instant in our memory as the thoughts, feelings, and emotions we experience. I clearly remember how feelings of embarrassment in specific instances during my adolescence changed the way I engaged similar situations thereafter,

I began to develop an Invisible Armor to protect myself in the future, creating subconscious "Filters" within my own Nervous System; it's like rewriting a computer code. When the Nervous System perceives X, respond by doing Y. eventually these filters began to drive the development of personality traits which I exemplified as a young adult and to some degree still do. For others this very real distortion may cause us to live in the past, the future, in fear, defensive, apprehensive or in any other altered mode of operation.

Through the process of Spinal, Soft Tissue, Structural Adjusting, and the subsequent Clearing of the Nervous System, we are able to HEAL. Not just from the Physical, but from the accumulated effects of Mental, Emotional, and Chemical Stress as well. The thinner the Armor, the more rapidly the process of transformation to express our potential for LIFE may be. By becoming and remaining CLEAR we have the ability to experience the world as child, without preformed judgement, fear, hang-ups, or expectations. We develop the ability to live in the NOW, integrating and adapting to stimuli as we experience an attunement to the present moment.

Chiropractic aligns the Physical with the Spiritual for the totality of our Life Expression. It reconnects us with ourselves and brings Harmony and Unity to Humanity.

What Does A Chiropractors Do?

Chiropractors Adjust Subluxations:
Subluxations come from Stress. Stress can be Physical, Chemical or Emotional in nature. Subluxations are a complex that develops when we become overstressed and a bone (in our spines or elsewhere) becomes misaligned. What follows is a period of Muscular Spasm, Affected Motion, Irritation, Inflammation, and Nerve Pressure which usually results in some form of Pain, Numbness, Tingling, or some other unpleasant symptom.

Getting Adjusted Feels Good: When our spines are aligned, we keep pressure of our Discs, Ligaments, Vessels, Nerves, and Muscles.

Getting Adjusted Helps us Function Better: When Subluxations place pressure on nerves it literally affects the communication between our Brain and our Body! The nerves that exit our spinal cord carry all the information that our brain receives, and all the messages that our brain sends to every part of us! Subluxations can limit these nerves capacity to carry information by up to 80%! Do you think your Immune System can keep you healthy if it's only receiving 20% of the information that your brain is sending to it?

Posture & Biomechanics: When our spines are well aligned, we can move evenly, and distribute our body weight properly. This means more motion and less wear and tear. When we move we pump nutrient & oxygen rich blood throughout our bodies, and remaining well aligned leads to less degenerative disc changes, arthritic changes, and a greater quality of LIFE!

3 Reasons Why We Get Adjusted

This week I would share 2 exerts from e-mails that I wrote this week. They both explain very different angles of Chiropractic and help to explain just Why We Get Adjusted!

Chiropractors Adjust Subluxations (Sub-Lux-Ations) which come from physical chemical and emotional stress and are a complex consisting of a bony misalignment, some degree of muscular spasm, and inflammation, and pressure being placed on 1 or more nerves which over time become further irritated, inflamed, and eventually symptoms (usually pain or an alteration in function) develop.

That being said; I like to tell people that there's 3 Reasons Why We Get Adjusted:

#1) It Feels Good - Misalignments result in pressure being placed on soft structures like nerves, ligaments, and tendons. They also cause muscular spasms which tend to exacerbate the issue and add to the issue. To put it most simply keeping the spine aligned allows the "space" for the parts of the body to exist in comfortably.

#2) When pressure is placed on Nerves the amount of information that nerve can carry is affected. It has been shown that the weight of a quarter on a spinal nerve (which exit the spinal cord and pass through the spine) can cut the amount of information they can carry by up to 80%... That means inaccurate information coming in, and less controlling and coordinating information coming from the brain down and out to every part of the body.

#3) This one involves Posture and Biomechanics. When we're subluxated motion is affected. The malpositioned bone can not maintain normal range of motion, so the surrounding joints tend to become hypermobile in order to compensate. The longer this complex exists the more the musculature becomes involved and posture becomes affected and faulty patterns of biomechanics develop... What happens when someone's in a cast and each step is different for a period of weeks.... What about for a period of months or years? These alterations increase the likely hood of degenerative conditions later on down the road.

Just for fun, place a rubber band snugly on your finger. Over a short period of time the blood flow will become affected, in a little more time the nerve will experience pressure and your finger will get tingly. Eventually, a fairly pervasive symptom of discomfort will cause you to remove the rubber band.... Or not and to continue irritating the situation. The same thing happens in our bodies... However, as Americans I believe that many of us prefer to hide the symptom and keep on indulging in all of the stresses that caused it in the first place.

Health and / or Wellness is about developing strategies to handle the stresses of life. Chiropractic is a great way to maintain a Stress Free Spine - and therefor a Nervous System Free of Interference so the Brain can control and coordinate us to Heal and Grow to the best of our ability!

There are many great and effective practices all of which lead to better health, but sometimes Wellness is greater than the sum of it's parts! I feel that the more pieces of the puzzle that we put together, the greater picture of health we begin to see!
Number 2:
I'm sorry to hear that you are suffering with very unpleasant symptoms. The short answer to your question is that I believe Chiropractic can help any-body, but how much getting adjusted can help is kind of up to you. Please allow me to explain. I believe that culturally we apply this, "If it aint broke don't fix it." mentality to our health in many regards. In reality the development of symptoms usually expresses that the body has become an environment which favors Degeneration, Inflammation, Dis-ease, or Infection as opposed to promoting Healing Growth and Regeneration. Stress, be it from Physical, Chemical, and / or Emotional sources has the potential to overload any system, and in the same way that a stick can be bent until it breaks we tend to continue doing all of the things that we feel we need to accomplish until we proverbially "Break.” For most of us Stress is no stranger whether that means sitting slouched in front of a computer all day, scrubbing floors with bleach, or simply beating ourselves up at the gym in an attempt to be healthier. For example, a minor Bicep injury greatly impacts the biomechanics of the arm and shoulder which affects the range of motion not only in those joints, but also in the Thoracic Spine, which only causes further changes and compensations. So, most of the time seemingly small things like the scenario above snowball overtime into much larger complexes of sub-optimal performance or dis-function.
So why have I gone into all of this? The answer is that there are likely one or more underlying causes connected to your current symptoms and while I believe that getting adjusted will help you, you’re most profound results will come from doing more than simply adjusting you once in a while. Creating Wellness as opposed to simply treating symptoms involves putting together as many pieces as possible in order to see a more clear - inclusive picture of HEALTH. This may mean many things, but like anything else your level of involvement is for you to decide.
I would love the opportunity to help you actualize your health goals, but bear in mind that much of the work will be done in the time that we're not together and that we will not miraculously solve the problems that countless treatments, procedures, practices, and surgeries have already attempted to simply "fix." Cleansing the Emotional Body

Every bit as important as physical detoxification, an emotional cleanse can free your mind and body in profound ways. It isn't always easy, but I have never met anyone who followed the protocol and regretted doing it. Beyond the immediate personal benefits, emotional cleansing may prevent the onset of disease, as there are scientific links between chronic emotional angst or stress and the major diseases of today.

A recent Harvard study of 1,305 men with an average age of 62 revealed that the men who were most plagued by emotional stress who were angriest were three times more likely to develop heart disease than the most placid ones. According to researchers at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, stress as been shown to act as a sort of fertilizer that significantly accelerates the spread and progression of breast cancer in animals. Immune cells, which normally protect the body against disease, are biologically reprogrammed through stress into cells that actually help cancers grow and metastasize.

In a review of the scientific literature on the relationship between stress and disease, Carnegie Mellon University psychologist Sheldon Cohen has found that stress is a contributing factor in human disease, and in particular depression, cardiovascular disease and HIV/AIDS. There is no  doubt about it, chronic emotional stress contributes to fatal disease.
Like a dietary cleanse, the emotional cleanse allows the emotional body to reset itself, letting go of the cumbersome toxic load and reducing stress significantly. Unless you consciously and deliberately engage in the emotional cleansing process, you are leaving a large component of your future health to chance. Don't leave your health to chance.
Recipe for an emotional cleanse
The recipe will call to mind specific people and events and ask you to take certain actions, always erring on the mature expression of your emotions, rather than an immature expression.
1. Cleanse anger
Identify the people at whom you are angry. Once identified, the recipe calls for you to write down the mature expression of your issue (not the immature one). Once you are clear on your adult position on the issue, the road forward will be obvious.
2. Cleanse guilt
Identify people you have wronged and of whom you need to ask forgiveness. Identify specifically what you did or how you acted poorly toward each person and what, if any, restitution you feel is appropriate. Make plans to act on your insights.
3. Cleanse negative memories you are holding onto
Write a list of negative memories that still bother you. Once you have your list, review each memory completely and from a distance. Imagine you are viewing the memory as a neutral observer from a safe and comfortable distance. Ask yourself what there is to learn from each memory. Record your thoughts.
4. Cleanse self-criticism
Notice the specific words you use to criticize yourself. Take a paper and pencil and write the words self-criticism at the top. Then, write down all the phrases the come to mind that you use to beat yourself up. Don't censor yourself. Review each phrase, curious about its origins. Next, completely clear your mind by listening passively but intently to some mundane sound in your immediate environment (the sound of a refrigerator motor, a fan, the hum of your computer of the distant traffic). Once you are settled and clear, throw the paper away.
5. Develop resources
Finally, immerse yourself in a positive memory, seeing what you saw at the time, hearing what you heard and feeling what you felt. Imagine many, many more of these positive memories being scattered into your future. By ending on a positive note and casting positivity into your future, you set the stage for good things to come. Positive expectations and optimism are linked to health and longevity.

The moral of the story: Take charge of your emotional health. Consciously process your emotions. Don't allow stress to dictate your state of being. When this happens, your mind and body become an environment in which disease is more likely to not just exist, but flourish.

Why Chiropractic?

Hey everyone,
This week's post is all about CHIROPRACTIC! Even though the practice of chiropractic has been established for well over 100 years, and helps individuals get great results with a multitude of ailments there are many common misconceptions about just what's going on.  when our bodies get stressed physically, chemically, or emotionally, we accommodate the stress-full forces with physical alterations of our bodies tone.  The end result of these physical alterations are what we call Subluxations, or spinal misalignments which affect the Nervous System with a far reaching potential for destruction.  When subluxations are present and your nervous system has been compromised the communication between your brain and your body is compromised. This means that even though you may not be perceiving pain your brain may not be receiving accurate information from your senses and therefore not coordinating every action of each cell, tissue, and organ of your body to work efficiently, properly, or even at all. Think about people who are handicapped, their Nervous System's have been affected in such a way that parts of their bodies no longer communicate with their brain's at all.
However, I want to be clear that when you come to a Chiropractor YOU do almost all of the hard work! You exercise the good judgement to change your health for the better, You commit to maintaining your scheduled appointments, and Your brain and body coordinates the healing which produces the positive effects.  So what does the Chiropractor do? Well, we Adjust the Subluxations to remove the interference so You can do the work!
Listen to my friend Chiro-Howie tell the story, and help him win the TalktheTic Contest!
See you soon!
